Flamenco (Red Letter Days style)

It all started over a conversation about what we're proud of...

Mia and I were sharing family history and memories from childhood. Mia comes from a long legacy of feisty Spaniards, and the adventures of past generations of the Hernandez family from Barcelona and Madrid kept us rolling. I come from Irish stock, and one thing that seemed most common in my family's history was dance (which is what I spent 95% of my childhood focused on).

So when it came time to discuss our table scape for the 2009-10 San Diego Style Weddings Magazine (featured on page 269), both of our brains went straight to our inspiring conversation and how we could create from it. What seemed most fitting was honoring dance within Spanish culture -i.e. Flamenco dance.

We knew that our friend, LaVonne Zamora Crawford of Adorations Botanical Artistry, would get our vision and craft it beautifully. We thank her for her deep commitment to this project and her collaborative spirit. To complete the perfect team, Karrie Pyke and Elizabeth Seaton of Posh Paperie created the stunning tapas menus and Melody Brandon of Sweet and Saucy Shop created the perfect Spanish-inspired cake (see Melody's blog post covering the table scape shoot). In addition, we selected the gorgeous linen from La Tavola Fine Linen (see their coverge of the table scape on their blog). What a blast it was to work with all these awesome artists!

And to capture our homage for posterity? The fabulous images below are the work of Rodrigo Mendez. We thank him for sharing his talent with us.

What a year...and we're not done!

Happy October, Friends! Last time we chatted, we were sharing news of our "move" to Solana Beach. We're still there (Cary hasn't kicked us out yet) and all is well.

Our intention for the next several posts is to flood you with eye candy galore while we track this year's excitement. There's A LOT, People. Grab a craft beer or glass of Pinot Noir.

To kick things off...our ad for the 2009-10 edition of San Diego Style Weddings Magazine (check it out in all of its glory on page 35). This lovely was designed by our dear friend and Posh Paperie co-rock star, Karrie Pyke. It features Lindsay and Ken, a beloved couple we had the pleasure of working with in 2008, shot by master photographer John Riedy.

Baby Peyton Oralia Robinson

Red Letter Days Events is very excited to have a new member of the family!

Planner extraordinaire, Amber Robinson, and her dear husband, Bryan, welcomed their daughter, Peyton Oralia Robinson, into the world today. Baby Peyton weighs 7 pounds, 2 ounces and is 20 inches long.

Hooray! Congratulations, Amber and Bryan!

Quote of the Day

I found this quote in Alexandra Stoddard's book Creating a Beautiful Home, which is full of thought-provoking ideas that I think any couple would find useful in setting up their home -- and integrating wedding gifts into the mix.

The quote itself, however, makes me think of the gorgeous attire that couples, their friends, family members, and guests wear for the big day:

Adornment is never anything except a reflection of the heart.
- Coco Chanel

Images from the US Grant Wedding and Event Showcase

Last Sunday's Wedding and Event Showcase at the US Grant Hotel was spectacular. It featured some of San Diego's best event talent, and Mia and I were very honored to have been among those invited to participate.

When it came time to create our display, we knew we wanted something over the top that reflected our love of the unusual. We wanted a piece of art that allowed everyone involved to play unabashedly.

So who to partner with on this venture? LaVonne Zamora Crawford of Adorations Botanical Artistry, of course! Mia and LaVonne waxed inspiration ~ Mia desired a creation that was a nod to her home town of Lake Tahoe (Vikingsholm Castle, to be exact). LaVonne had an arsenal of mindblowingly cool ideas that she'd wanted to explore for some time.

What was created was The Secret Garden, a piece that showcased LaVonne's raw talent and paid homage to Red Letter Days' passion for the offbeat. We're thankful beyond words for LaVonne's generous gift of herself to this project. We also thank Karrie Pyke and Posh Paperie for the delicious paper product that adorned the table, and Dan Cournoyer and Chameleon Chair Collection for the use of the beautiful olive taffeta petals chair that partnered beautifully with the table displays.

The images to follow were masterfully captured by none other than our dear friend, Joshua Aull. Our thanks to him for sharing his Sunday with us.

Enjoy.

Keisha Zollar to Noah Levin

Keisha + Noah = crazy fun.

This couple is like no other. They're hysterical beyond description (they're both comedians), insanely smart (Keisha's an actress and Noah's a math teacher), and madly in love. It was creative bliss planning the Temecula wedding of this New York couple (who originally met while attending UCSD), where life was celebrated loudly and tradition was honored joyfully.

Not bad that The Image Is Found was invited to document the day with their masterful eye and raw talent. Feast your eyes, Folks.

The ladies kicked off the day with what Wilson Creek Winery is best known for - almond champagne.

While the day to come would have its moments of the unexpected and unabashed, Keisha kept to the bridal tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed...

...and something blue.

A special moment for Keisha and her mother.

But always the actress, Keisha couldn't pass up the opportunity to play out her interpretation of Bridezilla.

And then back to the task at hand...her vows.

Meanwhile, Noah prepared for the day surrounded by friends and family.

Noah was faithful to his studies as well.

Lest he forget.
Stunning portraits of the beautiful bride...

All facets of Noah's personality documented.

Eagerly anticipating the ceremony to come.

The ceremony was a beautiful blend of culture and tradition.

A libation toast to the couple's ancestors and the mixing of the four elements.

Signing the Ketubah.

Breaking the glass.

And the traditional high five.

Ready to get down and celebrate...

...but first, some time to soak in the magic of their moment.

Florals and decor were in keeping with the inspiring surroundings of wine country...

But the cake. That was all Keisha and Noah.

The Bride and Groom (adorned in the robe he was known for wearing around UCSD campus) at their reception.

And their friends and family celebrating the marriage.

As favors...framed engagement photos of the couple.

The couple's first dance.

A lovely moment for Noah and his mother.

Keisha and her father grooved down the dancefloor.

The Horah.

The relief.

Cake cutting (please note Noah's robe...a surprise for Keisha).

Cut throat competition for the bouquet.

Throwing elbows for prime placement...

...for the infamous garter toss.

Dancing it out...

...and loving it all.
